Artist's Description

Young and strong, our resting cowboy gazes forward as he readies himself for the many tasks and chores awaiting him. Our strapping friend symbolizes the energy of those individuals who made our country solid. With great work ethics and total conviction for their beliefs, the American Cowboy reflects the attitude that satisfaction comes from doing a hard days work.

Rather than blending the colors together to get the three-dimensional effect, I opted to use a technique I learned from Master Artist Morgan Weistling. Morgan favors laying down tiles of color in a mosaic form. Emphasis is placed on color temperature and value, rather than smoothing the colors together. Much like the works of the impressionists; the subject is more easily viewed at a greater distance, where as the individual brush-strokes are readily detected up close.

Rick Fitzsimons Born in Bristol, Connecticut, where he now lives with his wife Bonnie, Rick’s interest in art emerged as a young child. Endless hours of drawing occupied much of his time as a youth. Although fascinated with the different aspects of art, he never thought he would make it his livelihood. His background in Business Management led him on an unusual path, circling back to the world of art. Rick and his dad opened an Awards and Sign shop in their hometown. Not long after, customers would request new Logo designs for their businesses, which led to applying the images to large signs and vehicles.
